DOJ and BIA to Host Consultation on TLOA Long Term Detention Plan at Upcoming TJSW Session

Under the Tribal Law & Order Act of 2010 (TLOA) the Departments of Interior and Justice are required to collaborate and develop a long term plan for incarceration in Indian Country and submit that plan to Congress before July 29, 2011.  As the deadline approaches, the two agencies are using the upcoming Interdepartmental Tribal Justice, Safety & Wellness (TJSW) Conference, as an opportunity to consult with tribes on this long term plan for incarceration, amongst other provisions of the TLOA. The consultation will occur May 11, 2011 at the Talking Stick Resort in Phoenix, AZ.  For a copy of the official "Dear Tribal Leader" letter announcing the upcoming consultations, please click here.  The conference agenda is available online at: http://www.tribaljusticesafetywellness.org/agenda.cfm
